ReikiFriend.com Ethics and Code of Practice

Reikifriend.com is a channel for UK Reiki teachers and practitioners by which they can advertise their services and also network with one another. It was founded with the intention to help promote the practice of Reiki and reflect the voices, insights and opinions of Reiki in the UK today, therefore providing an excellent resource to current Reiki practitioners and those who wish to receive Reiki or become attuned now or in the future.

In no way does reikifriend.com claim to be an authority on Reiki, neither does it claim to be any kind of governing body, it is only an information channel for professional Reiki people. Reikifriend.com does not provide an accreditation, licence or authorization of any kind in relation to the Reiki practitioners and teachers who become members or are active on the website. In order to be an open channel for Reiki people, it is the way of reikifriend.com to act in the Reiki spirit and the site expects the same from all those who wish to become members. Even though Reiki is indeed a higher energy and is completely safe, as channels for this energy we have a responsibility to Reiki, ourselves and the public to be of impeccable character and to respect and honour others. Reikifriend.com assumes and trusts that all people who do Reiki and wish to become members of this site are good decent individuals. To further these aims, reikifriend.com requires all members to comply with:

• the website subscriber terms and conditions;
• the website terms of use and acceptable use policy; and
• the Code of Ethics and Code of Practice which sets out our ethos and the standards we expect of our members.

Code of Ethics

All members of reikifriend.com agree to the following principles:

• The Gokai (Five Principles) is our everyday philosophy and our thoughts and actions are therefore a reflection of the Gokai.
• We acknowledge we are only channels for Reiki, in Reiki we have complete trust and we therefore exercise non attachment to end results.
• We realize the need for self treatment, we must self treat and when possible receive Reiki from other practitioners.
• We should continuously endeavour to improve our Reiki skills and knowledge.
• We honour and respect all styles and lineages of Reiki.
• We have the utmost respect and shall never exploit in any way all those we give Reiki treatments to.
• We shall never make any claims to cure and we shall never attempt to make a diagnosis. We will never claim that Reiki is a substitute for conventional medical treatment and diagnosis and as Reiki practitioners we make it clear if asked that we are not medical professionals.
• We shall at all times practice Reiki in a most professional manner whether the client is paying or not.
• We shall always seek to empower our clients and students.
• We shall always do what we can to spread awareness and understanding of Reiki.
• We recognize that those who practice and receive Reiki come from a multitude of backgrounds and we shall exercise no prejudice whatsoever on the basis of belief, race, gender, age, class, political views or sexual orientation.

Code of Practice

All members of reikifriend.com agree to the following principles:

• We must always hold suitable insurance to practice Reiki.
• We must show our qualifications upon request.
• We shall always explain to a client prior to treatment what a treatment exactly consists of and how much the fee will be. We shall never claim to cure, attempt to make a diagnosis or recommend a particular course of medical treatment. We must always make it clear if asked that in no way does Reiki take the place of conventional medical treatment and as Reiki practitioners we are not medical professionals and do not posses such skills or knowledge. Neither shall we be attired in such a way as to give the impression of medical qualifications. We must never claim to treat or cure cancer or any other type of medical condition or illness.
• We shall not say anything negative about fellow practitioners, other therapies and conventional medicine.
• We acknowledge the right of a client to refuse treatment.
• Our treatment premises must be safe, clean, hygienic, comfortable, free from noise and unwanted distractions and shall reflect an overall professional standard.
• We shall never ask a client to remove any items of clothing with the sensible exception of shoes and coat or jacket. Whilst giving treatments we must never touch a client’s breasts or genital areas, we should also ask clients if there are other areas they do not want touched. When treating members of the opposite sex we should have a third party in the room or close by.
• If we are treating or teaching a minor we must ensure that they are chaperoned by a parent or guardian. We must receive confirmation from the parent or guardian that the child has been seen by a doctor prior to any Reiki treatment being given.
• We shall not include any other modalities in Reiki treatments unless we have been asked to do so and will only do so if we have 100% bona fide qualifications in these modalities.
• We must keep comprehensive records pertaining to all treatments given and keep those records secure at all times.
• We must ensure client confidentiality at all times.
• We must comply with the Data Protection Act 1998 in relation to any personal data we hold.
• If Reiki is to be given in a hospital environment this can strictly only be done with the prior written permission of the patient and the relevant hospital authorities.
• If Reiki is to be given to a pet or other animal one must receive confirmation from the owner that they have first been examined by a vet prior to any treatment being given.
• As practitioners we reserve the right at our own discretion to refuse or postpone treatment to regular clients and members of the general public for reasons of lateness, personal safety, intimidation and intoxication by way of alcohol or other mind altering substances.
• Members of reikifriend.com must conform with all relevant UK legislation and local authority bye-laws in force from time to time.
• Members of reikifriend.com will carry out Reiki services with all due skill, care and diligence at all times.
